We leave Airlie and the birds to head off to Rollingstone Beach Front Resort, that is just north of Townsville. We head out on Bruce Highway. Our first diversion is to Bowen and a tiny little beach called Horseshoe Bay that is nestled in a cove surrounded by hills. At the foot is a quaint cafe (Horseshoe Bay Cafe) and we have a mid morning coffee. We then spot their 'special', that is a sort of chicken burger with lots of other stuff chucked in, that we share and it is really lovely. With that, we have a mango smoothie and a berry smoothie, that are fantastic. So, feeling incredibly full, a walk up to the nearby Rotary Lookout, which was some 200 feet up and a number of steps to take, had to be done! But the view was worth the effort (as was the thought we shed some of the calories we had just eaten). Then off to our next motorhome park, which is a little off the beaten track, but when we arrive and get our beach side plot, it's worth the extra time and miles. We get our chairs out, pour out a glass of wine each, plonk ourselves down and just look out to sea, felling the warmth of the sun. We noticed when we arrived that there is a cafe / bar, which is the first we have encountered when staying on a park. So we stroll down to see what it's like, just as the sun is setting. There are a few other campers there and it's all very convivial. There is even some music playing, although you would have to be a Neil Diamond fan to enjoy it, as that was pretty much all what was played whilst we were there. But we chilled out and probably stayed a bit longer than we should have, as well probably had one beer too many as well. We staggered back to our van, promising to give up alcohol for the rest of our adventure. As you have already correctly guessed, that promise did not last long!
