How South Can You Go?

Weather today is rubbish - rains most of the day but as we are driving, it doesn't really matter. We stop at the Maui main dealer in Melbourne to top up the gas (for cooking) and change the linen. We also enquire about having a slightly different motorhome that is configurerated to suit our needs and the young girl who looked after us does a great job in helping us - wish customer service in the UK was as good! We head on down the coast towards our ultimate destination - Wilsons National Park. This is pretty much the most southernly part of mainland Australia. We stop off on the way at a great little (well, big actually) farm called Caldermead Farm and Cafe, where we both had excellent beef and mushroom pies. Then a stop at Cape Paterson, which is a very quiet bay with a great stretch of sand and interesting rock formations. Finally, we get to Watsons Promontory National Park, but by now it's dark and absolutely belting down with rain. We rang through earlier to say we were arriving, but all we can get is a self contained site (i.e. no facilities) - our first experience of this. Finding where to park was fun, but we find a spot, avoiding hitting the many trees that are here. For supper, it's a salad and some cheese, plus a drop of wine. Off to bed quite early, as tomorrow, we will do one of the great walks suggested.
