Its a bit of a drive from Kiama as we have to navigate around Sydney. We are not stopping at this city because we have a trip here later on when our son arrives early next month. So it's onward and northwards towards Lake Macquarie along the Pacific Highway. We stop at Belmot Lakeside, which is surrounded by one of the many lakes here. The park is a bit isolated, so Keith cooks up a chilli con carne which hits the taste bud markers just perfectly. The next morning, we sit out in the lovely sunshine to enjoy our breakfast, before exploring the area. We visit Catherine Hill Bay, that is a historic mining village and has a lovely beach. It has a great old inn called The Catho Pub. It was something out of the 1970's - guys were having a beer at 9.30am, it was playing a fuzzy video of the Gorillaz, they have bands on most evenings and there was a window where you could order some food (which we didn't). And on a Wednesday evening, you could have a meal served by ladies in lingerie! We move on to Murrays Beach that is effectively a development site on a beach but with a backdrop of a wood. It has been tastefully done and while we were there, the community had got together to celebrate a birthday, by having, yes, a barbecue. Our last stop was the best. A place called the caves which, at first arrival, did not get us particularly excited. There was a great beach, but we had to walk around the perimeter of the headland, before we encountered a fantastic cave. Upon entering, we then found a small opening onto another beach which was like another world. Was this Narnia? It was fantastic - it was like we had entered a world just for us. So peaceful with the sandy bay being gently washed by the clear blue water. But we had to move on, so we re-entered the real world again and headed off to our next port of call at Port Stephens. We stay at Halifax Holiday Park that is located at Shoal Beach. We sit outside watching the sun set and plan our day for tomorrow.

Beach looks cute...... wonder if they filmed ‘Five children and It’ there? Pics are good although want to see your Aussie mullet haircut Keith!
