Not the lakes of Italy, but the lakes of Udaipur

Our drive to Udaipur was not the longest, but certainly long enough! But we had a delightful stop for lunch in the middle of knowhere, a place that ordinarilly we would have never considered, had it not been that our great driver said was 'okay'. The restuarant was run by an ex army officier in fact. Food was buffet and the staff said ' its not spicy'; our response was 'we love spicy' and immeadiately they dashed to the kitchen and returned with completely different dishes - mutton curry was one and, boy, was it hot but really tasty! And the meal was just a few pounds. We had an impromptu stop at an old Buddhist temple Ransdepur Temple, which was quite unusual in that it was constructed with a maze of marble pillars. Then we arrived at Udaipur and, by the lake, the Taj Lake Palace shimmered in the sun, with its reflection in the water an artists dream. We were treated like royalty (we think Diane is mistaken for one of the 2 Dames - Helen Mirren or JudyDench!). I'm her toy boy, of course. A nice meal up on the roof terrace was a great end to the day.
