We take the Cathay Pacific flight from Cairns to Sydney. Diane and Alex take the Business Class seats and enjoy champagne and steak. Keith volunteered to take the Economy seat and ‘enjoyed‘ a tiny beef sandwich and paid $6 for a glass of wine! We get picked up by the Intercontinental and get to our hotel just as happy hour in Club commences; great timing to enjoy some canapés and decent wine. We are on the 32nd floor and overlook both the Opera House and Bridge. Absolutely fantastic view of both and plenty of pictures taken. We have booked a trip down the river to see the last night of a month‘s festival of light, where there is a light show illuminating many buildings along the river. The cruise is very good as is the light show, but the weather turns foul with rain now falling. On the boat, we meet a young US lass and once docked, we all have some beers in one of the lively dockside bars. Unfortunately, the combination of not much food, fresh sea air and more than one beer, means that Keith has trouble keeping upright! At least he had Alex and Di to prop him up and get him back to the hotel. Albeit, not before he got stuck in the automatic doors of the Hyatt Hotel and had to be saved from being crushed by Alex!

The next day we strolled down to look at the Opera House and had some lovely Sydney Bay oysters. Then off for a little walk along the harbour before an impromptu booking of a ghost tour that evening. The Rocks Ghost Tour was well attended and our guide looked the part in a large overcoat and large brimmed hat. We walked through a lot of the old part of the city and heard about a fair bit of the history. We saw no ghosts, but did see some manacles in a basement of a pub! Overall, it was an enjoyable couple of hours.

Which Hyatt Hotel did Keith get stuck in the doors? Hopefully not the brand new one next to the bridge..... 🙄
